We imagine a world where waste no longer exists – where waste products aren’t simply discarded – where the resources of the earth are used with purpose and returned with care. This is the world of Terrapure.
At Terrapure, we’re a leader in our industry. We have aggressive goals for growth, investment returns and geographic expansion. How we go about achieving these goals is important to us.
A State-of-the-Art Re-Refinery
Terrapure operates the first North American re-refinery, and has been supplying quality recycled base oils products longer than any competitor. With a crystal clear safety record and a top-performing product, you can trust Terrapure as your supplier of eco-friendly base oils.
Mohawk Oil Company breaks ground in North Vancouver, B.C. for an oil re-refinery (developed by Phillips Petroleum).
The first SAE 10W-30 API licensed SF/CC multigrade engine oil is produced from re-refined base oil, for sale under the Mohawk label.
Mohawk Canada Ltd. replaces the original North Vancouver plant with the (in-house developed) Mohawk Process – the world’s first commercial scale re-refinery to use vacuum distillation and hydrotreating to recover base oil from used lubricating oil.
Plant capacity increases with an additional distillation unit to recover a second, heavier base oil.
Over 8 million litres of blended products are produced, including new Mohawk products and private label programs for external customers.
The third and most recent plant expansion occurs with the commissioning of the 100 Neutral and low sulphur diesel processing unit.
The process is patented and remains the standard by which all other re-refined products are judged.
Newalta acquires the assets of Mohawk Lubricants Ltd., including the collection network and the North Vancouver re-refinery.
Newalta has invested approximately $10 million in the facility. Today, 43 skilled people work at the facility, which processes approximately 35 million litres of waste oil annually.
Newalta produces Group II base oils.
Newalta begins research efforts to define a product portfolio of re-refined oil products to expand distribution and marketing.
Newalta launches Advanta ECO.
